The season came to an end this weekend for the Cambrian Golden Shield women’s soccer team. The 3rd-ranked Shield lost 2-0 to Mohawk in the Consolation Semi-Final at the provincial championships, being held at the James Jerome Sports Complex in Sudbury. Congratulations to the Shield for a wonderful season.

Day 1 – Cambrian results

It was a heartbreaking loss last night by the host Cambrian Golden Shield on Day 1 of the OCAA Women’s Soccer Championships at James Jermone Field in Sudbury.

Seneca Sting forward Francesca Pedulla snapped a 1-1 tie in the 87th minute, as the Sting edged the Golden Shield 2-1.

All-time OCAA leading scorer Tiffany Johnson opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a well-placed header, before Jamie Smith evened matters for the Sting on a penalty kick in the 60th minute. A pair of apparent Cambrian goals were nullified, one of a foul, the other with an off-side call.

Cambrian’s next game is noon Friday versus Mohawk in the consolation round semi-finals.
